What:

The Issaquah Brewhouse Project is a joint venture between the Issaquah Brewhouse Bistro & Brewpub and the Impaling Alers where members/representatives of the Impaling Alers have the opportunity to brew beer on the Issaquah Brewhouse’s nano brewing system.  The Issaquah Brewhouse Project Committee, within the Impaling Alers, is tasked with running and maintaining the project along with determining any operating rules and procedures.

Why:

The Issaquah Brewhouse Project is a unique opportunity for club members to help design a recipe that will be brewed at the Issaquah Brewhouse. Emphasis will be placed on educational aspects of recipe formulation, all-grain brewing techniques, quality control, and marketability.  In addition, we hope to further improve the link between commercial craft breweries, their patrons, and the homebrewing community through the production of unique beer styles and ‘meet the brewer’ type events that promote the Impaling Alers and the Issaquah Brewhouse.

How:

Brewing slots are filled by the winner of the club’s monthly homebrew competitions or other group selections.  Other slots will be filled from members who have volunteered for selected club events such as potlucks and local beer festivals. Remaining slots are filled at the discretions of the GDC.

Recipe Rules/Parameters

1.    All recipes must be approved by the project committee.  No wild yeasts or illegal ingredients will be allowed and it may be necessary to substitute ingredients.

2    You will need to describe your recipe to include what aspects you are shooting for.  After the beer has been produced, you will also need to provide a description and be involved in determining its name. The brewer will be encouraged to make a short presentation at the Issaquah Brewhouse on release night. Names are subject to approval.

3.    The recipe must be finalized within 5 days of the scheduled brewday so that ingredients and yeast may be procured.  Please be punctual in responding to scheduling and recipe formulation emails or we will be forced to reschedule.  If you need to cancel and the ingredients have already been procured, the beer may have to be brewed without you.

Brew Day Rules

1.    We are guests of the Issaquah Brewhouse and must conduct ourselves professionally and safely at all times.  Utmost respect must be given to all employees, and patrons, of the Issaquah Brewhouse.

2.    You must arrive sober, and there is no alcohol allowed in the brewhouse. There is also absolutely no drinking during the brewing session.

3.    Personal guests are generally not permitted to accompany the brewer.  Final authority will rest with the committee member who is supervising your brew session.  We don’t want these sessions to become social calls and it concerns the Issaquah Brewhouse staff.

4.    Wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes/boots with good traction on wet surfaces.  There is currently no heat or air conditioning in the brewhouse.
